For over thirty years, Daniel Hurley has represented citizens from all over Texas and the United States accused of criminal wrongdoing in state and federal courts. During that time, Mr. Hurley has tried more than 200 federal and state jury trials. He has won acquittals for clients on charges ranging from capital murder and aggravated sexual assault to DWI and possession of marijuana. Because of his success, Mr. Hurley is frequently asked to lecture other criminal defense lawyers, prosecutors, and judges on how to win a criminal case.
Mr. Hurley was raised in Lubbock, Texas and graduated from Coronado High School in 1971. Mr. Hurley received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Texas Tech University in 1975. He graduated from the Texas Tech University Law School in 1978. Mr. Hurley was then hired by Alton Griffin as an Assistant District Attorney. He continued to prosecute for Lubbock County when John T. Montford was elected District Attorney. After prosecuting for two years, Mr. Hurley went into private practice.
Since that time, Mr. Hurley has primarily focused his practice on criminal defense. In addition to representing clients charged in state court with crimes like possession of a controlled substance, assault, and intoxication offenses, he has also built a significant federal criminal practice. Mr. Hurley has successfully defended individuals charged with a variety of federal offenses, including fraud, conspiracy, and other white collar crimes.
Mr. Hurley has been widely recognized for his work as a criminal defense lawyer and has served as both President and Director of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association.
In 2018, Mr. Hurley was inducted into the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer Association's (TCDLA) Hall of Fame. In 2015, the TCDLA named Mr. Hurley as the Lawyer of the Year. Also in 2015, Dan was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL). The ACTL "is recognized as the preeminent organization of trial lawyers in North America, dedicated to maintaining and improving the standards of trial practice, professionalism, ethics, and the administration of justice."
Mr. Hurley is AV Preeminent Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Furthermore, Mr. Hurley was selected in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 as a Thomson Reuters Super Lawyer, which comprises only the top 5% of lawyers in the state. In addition, in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013, he was selected by KCBD as the top criminal defense lawyer in Lubbock.
